This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge foundation model technologies, develop scalable cloud-based software systems, and collaborate with top research scientists and engineers globally.
Introduction
IBM Research Scientists are pioneering advances in Artificial Intelligence, quantum computing, climate science, and more.
Interns will contribute to solving some of the world’s most pressing challenges, such as developing AI-powered warning systems, leveraging quantum computers for drug discovery, and creating foundation models across various domains including language, healthcare, and geospatial sciences.
Your Role and Responsibilities
As an IBM Student Intern, you will:
- Work on groundbreaking foundation model technologies in the field of urban climate using geospatial foundational models.
- Develop processing pipelines for geospatial data.
- Fine-tune IBM’s geospatial foundation models with the TerraTorch package.
- Validate model outputs against observations.
- Collaborate with a global team of research scientists and engineers.
Technical and Professional Expertise
- Enrolled in an M.Sc. or Ph.D. program in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, Computer & Electronics Engineering, or Physics.
- Proficiency in scientific Python stack (numpy, scipy, pandas, matplotlib, etc.).
- Experience with other programming languages (Java, JavaScript, C/C++, etc.).
- Experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
- Ideally, familiarity with geospatial and spatiotemporal data (netCDF, GeoTiff).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Experience
- Presenting research at technical conferences (Neurips, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, etc.).
- Experience with cloud-native technologies.
- Deep understanding of machine learning concepts, foundation models, and MLOps.
- Familiarity with API development and usage.
