Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd invites applications for the position of Intern (Research Study Assistant) at their Shandukani Research Centre (CRS), WITS RHI sites, DoH clinics.
This is a temporary position with a closing date of 04 July 2025.
The Intern (Research Study Assistant) will be responsible for recruiting and ensuring the retention of study participants in various research projects.
The role involves establishing trust with participants, conducting screenings, providing HIV testing and counselling, and supporting study protocols in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
Key Performance Areas
- Recruit participants based on study inclusion/exclusion criteria
- Address concerns and misconceptions about the study
- Respond to participant queries or refer them to the line manager
- Build trust and respectful relationships with participants and caregivers
- Conduct HIV pre- and post-test counselling
- Provide information on HIV risk reduction, adherence, hygiene, etc.
- Follow up on missed visits and conduct home visits if necessary
- Document all participant interactions and maintain accurate records
- Update electronic screening logs daily
- Support participants and caregivers throughout the study period
- Refer participants to Study Coordinators or Investigators for further care
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 qualification
- At least 1 year of experience in recruiting study participants
- Knowledge of pre- and post-HIV test counselling
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and discretion
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
- Diploma in Primary Health Care or similar (advantageous)
- Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage workload under pressure
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
