Training Overview
The SAPS Traineeship Programme offers a 24-month Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP) designed to prepare aspiring police officers.
Trainees will undergo 12 months of theoretical training at a SAPS Academy and 12 months of practical experience in the field.
Trainees will receive a stipend of R4500 per month, and upon successful completion, may be appointed as permanent police constables with a starting salary of approximately R216,033 per year.
SAPS plans to recruit 5,500 trainees for the 2025/2026 cycle. Applications are expected to open by late June 2025, so prepare now to seize this opportunity.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: South African citizen with a valid ID or permanent residency
- Age: Between 18 and 35 years old by the closing date

- Language Skills: Proficient in at least two official languages, including English
- Criminal Record: No criminal convictions or pending cases (fingerprints will be verified)

- Driver’s License: Valid light motor vehicle license is a plus (not mandatory)

- Commitment: Ready to take the Oath of Office, complete 24 months of training, and serve anywhere in South Africa
