Key Responsibilities
- Review Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) reports
- Implement Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA)
- Manage regulatory oversight of South African Civil Aviation Regulations (SACARs) and SACATS related to Aviation Environmental Protection (AEP)
- Work on programs aligned with ICAO Annex 16 standards, including aircraft emissions, noise, and climate change
- Assist in oversight, auditing, and approval of environmental plans for aerodrome and aircraft operators
- Conduct AEP audits to ensure airport compliance with environmental standards
- Coordinate AEP activities with national and international stakeholders, including ICAO, IATA, and the Department of Environment
AEC Operations Development
- Develop and implement Surveillance Plans for industry oversight
- Plan and execute inspections in line with quality management procedures
- Support the implementation of CORSIA requirements
- Assess emissions reports and monitor environmental compliance of international aircraft operators
- Contribute to the development of regulations related to Annex 16 and environmental standards
Administrative and Policy Support
- Handle administrative duties related to AEP activities
- Assist in the development and review of relevant regulations and technical standards
- Support policy development and liaise with government departments and industry stakeholders
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Participate in workshops, committees, and awareness programs
- Develop communication materials to promote environmental standards
- Engage with industry and public stakeholders on AEP issues
Requirements
Education
- Minimum: National Diploma in Environmental Science/Management or equivalent
- Ideal: Degree in Environmental Science/Management or related field
- Knowledge of National Environmental Act and EIA regulations is advantageous
Experience
- Minimum: 1 year experience in environmental compliance
- Experience in aviation environmental compliance is an added advantage
