Bursary Overview
The Gauteng Department of Education is offering employee-initiated bursaries for full-time study programs during the 2025/2026 financial year.

These bursaries are targeted at School-Based Educators registered at recognized Public Higher Education Institutions.
Eligible Institutions
Applications are open for study at the following institutions:
- University of South Africa
- University of Johannesburg
- University of Pretoria
- North West University
- University of the Witwatersrand
- Tshwane University of Technology
- University of the Free State
Eligible Programmes and Targets
Applicants must be enrolled in the following programmes (with specified targets):

| Masters Programmes in Education | Educators above B.Ed Honours | 200 |
| PhD Programmes in Education | Educators in Schools of Specialisation above REQV 14 | 50 |
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- Certified copy of SA ID, Matric certificate, and highest post-matric qualification (certification must be recent, not older than 3 months)
- Certified copy of SACE certificate
- Proof of Registration (including Statement of Account or Invoice from the institution)
- Prescribed book list and Van Schaik quotation (2025)
- Proof of employment status (Permanent employees: PERSAL printout, choice 3)
- Course outline
Important Notes
Preference will be given to applicants currently studying at the listed institutions and with proof of registration and financial statements.
Applicants who have previously received bursaries or are currently servicing bursary obligations are not eligible to apply.
Late or incorrectly posted applications will not be considered. Ensure all required documents are attached and properly certified.
