UNDP South Africa is seeking a highly experienced Digital Transformation & Innovation Expert to support its Inclusive Growth Programme through strategic digital initiatives.

The incumbent will lead high-impact projects focusing on AI, digital economy, and innovative solutions to promote inclusive economic growth, especially within the informal sector, AgriTech, and youth entrepreneurship domains.
Allowances and Conditions of Work
Duty Station: Pretoria, South Africa
Living Conditions: Excellent infrastructure, high-standard utilities, and internet connectivity. Caution advised due to urban security conditions.
UN Volunteer Allowances:
- Monthly Living Allowance: R22,926.08
- Expertise Differential: R9,170.43
- Entry Lump Sum: $400
- Exit Lump Sum (one-time)

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Technical Expertise
- Provide thought leadership on digital transformation, AI-driven innovation, and inclusive growth strategies.
- Offer high-level technical advice to government, development partners, and UNDP teams.
- Identify and implement innovative digital solutions to enhance project impact.
- Lead feasibility studies and pilot initiatives on emerging technologies.
Project Management & Implementation
- Develop detailed project work plans aligned with objectives, timelines, and budgets.
- Oversee project delivery, monitor progress, manage risks, and adapt strategies.
- Manage project budgets ensuring financial compliance.
- Supervise and guide implementing partners and vendors.
Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies, private sector, civil society, and development organizations.
- Represent UNDP at policy discussions, conferences, and forums.
- Advocate for policy reforms related to digital economy initiatives.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Define KPIs and track project success.
- Lead the development of impact reports and knowledge-sharing materials.
- Conduct evaluations and synthesize lessons learned.
Innovation & Digital Transformation
- Drive AI, digital economy, and AgriTech innovations.
- Stay informed on global trends to inform project design.
- Champion pilot initiatives and research on AI applications.
Partnership Development
- Cultivate partnerships with technology firms, financial institutions, and research entities.
- Secure additional funding and resources.
- Formalize collaboration agreements.
- Develop project and concept notes for resource mobilization.
Eligibility & Requirements
Nationality: Must be a national or legal resident of South Africa
Experience: Minimum of 7+ years in project management, digital transformation, or innovation-driven programming
Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in Development Studies, Business Administration, Public Policy, Digital Technologies, or related fields
Languages: Fluent in English
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Proven ability to manage complex, high-impact projects with diverse stakeholders
- Strong background in digital transformation, AI, AgriTech, and informal sector empowerment
- Experience in securing and managing donor funding
- Familiarity with UNDP programming frameworks and resource mobilization
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project), data tools (Excel, Power BI), and M&E tools
