
Job Summary
The University of Cape Town is seeking a dedicated Administrative Assistant to provide comprehensive administrative support to the Centre for Social Science Research.

The role involves managing HR processes, financial tasks, event coordination, venue bookings, procurement, and general administrative duties to support the Centre’s research and operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting Centre operations and administrative functions
- Assisting with financial and human resources processes
- Managing assets and supplies
- Providing research support and coordinating events
- Overseeing venue bookings and procurement activities
Requirements for the Job
- Matric and NQF5 Higher Certificate in office administration or related field
- 3 years’ relevant experience in administrative or operational work
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and familiarity with filesharing platforms
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and produce accurate work under deadlines
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- NQF6: National Diploma in office administration or related field
- Experience working in a research institute
- Knowledge of website design and maintenance (e.g., Drupal)
- Experience in planning and delivering large events
- Familiarity with UCT’s internal administrative processes (HR, Payroll, Finance)
Salary & Benefits
The annual cost of employment, including benefits, ranges from R 394,844 to R 464,523.
