Junior Lecturer job openings at UNISA

Job Summary

UNISA, South Africa’s only publicly funded institution dedicated to distance education, invites applications for two fixed-term contract positions of Junior Lecturer in Mining Engineering.

Organization: University of South Africa (UNISA) – College of Science, Engineering and Technology, School of Engineering and the Built Environment, Department of Mining, Minerals and Geomatics Engineering
Location: UNISA Florida Campus
Closing Date: 27 June 2025 (Applications must be submitted before 16:00)

These positions are funded by the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and aim to support academic excellence and capacity building within the department.

Post-specific Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

A Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours (BEngTechHons) in Mining Engineering or an equivalent qualification.

Minimum average of 65% across all completed undergraduate and honours qualifications.

Undergraduate qualifications including a Diploma or National Diploma, and Bachelor of Technology or Advanced Diploma in Mining Engineering.

Willingness to register for a Master of Engineering degree within two years of appointment.

Registration as a Candidate Engineering Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).

Additional Recommendations

  • Relevant teaching or work experience in higher education, especially in an Open Distance e-Learning environment, will be an advantage.
  • Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineering Technologist with ECSA is advantageous.
  • minimum average of 65% at Honours level will be considered favorably.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate modules in Mining Engineering tailored to Open Distance e-Learning pedagogies.
  • Pursuing and completing a Master of Engineering specializing in Mining Engineering within two years.

  • Engaging in scholarly activities, including presenting at conferences and publishing in accredited journals.
  • Assisting with departmental administrative duties.
  • Participating actively in departmental committees.
