The University of Cape Town (UCT) is seeking to appoint a permanent Administrative Assistant (Payclass 07) to support the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU) within the School of Economics.

This soft-funded position involves providing comprehensive administrative and logistical support to the SALDRU Director, Deputy Director, and team, along with serving as the frontline reception.
The role demands a dynamic individual capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- General administration such as filing, travel arrangements, minute-taking, and completing finance and admin forms
- Human Resource administration
- Frontline reception duties
- Coordination of events and meetings
- Performing ad hoc administrative duties as required
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum NQF4 qualification
- Driver’s license
- At least 3 years of relevant office administration experience
- 1 year of event coordination experience
- Proficiency in MS Word (high) and MS Excel (medium)
- Good time management, planning, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure independently and collaboratively
- Strong client focus and service orientation
- Attention to detail and high levels of honesty and integrity, especially when handling cash and finances
Advantageous
- Secretarial/Office Management Diploma (1 year)
- Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems
- Familiarity with UCT and higher education processes
Remuneration
The annual package, including benefits, ranges from R394,844 to R464,523, depending on qualifications and experience.
