CemAir is hiring a Ramp Agent/ AMC Controller

CemAir (Pty) Ltd, a reputable South African airline operating from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of RAMP AGENT / AMC CONTROLLER.

This role is crucial to ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional handling of aircraft operations at the airport.

The ideal applicant will demonstrate a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform in a dynamic environment.

Position Overview

The RAMP AGENT / AMC CONTROLLER is a dual-role position requiring the successful candidate to perform duties as both a Ramp Agent and an AMC Coordinator.

Responsibilities will be carried out on a rotational basis, based on operational needs and management discretion.

The role demands a results-driven individual committed to safety, efficiency, and customer service excellence.

Main Responsibilities

Note: This position involves a combination of ground handling and aircraft movement coordination tasks. The incumbent will be expected to adapt to operational demands seamlessly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Proactively coordinating all airport and ground services, including providers and internal stakeholders, to support company aircraft operations at OR Tambo International Airport. The goal is to ensure safe operations and meet or exceed On-Time Performance (OTP) targets.
  • Liaising with airport and airside service providers to facilitate smooth ramp operations, fostering strong working relationships.

  • Providing accurate and timely information to all relevant role players to ensure efficient handling processes, schedule adherence, delay recovery, and safety/security protocols.
  • Performing operational duties as directed by OCC (Operations Control Center), including supporting irregular operations (IROPS) and emergency response activities.

  • Ensuring the consistent application and completion of the Precision Time Schedule (PTS).
  • Monitoring and coordinating fueling operations, including collecting receipts and verifying fuel quantities.

  • Initiating and managing boarding procedures and other airport activities as required.
  • Ensuring the availability of correct and serviceable Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for arrivals and departures.

  • Managing internal service providers such as baggage handling, catering, water & toilet services, crew transport, and passenger bus services.
  • Overseeing the safe and efficient operation of GSE and vehicles assigned to the ramp.

  • Ensuring compliance with all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety directives, and security protocols.
  • Reporting all safety and security concerns promptly.

  • Managing roster adherence and daily planning, ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing airport operations.

  • Striving to reduce operational costs by enforcing adherence to safety, service levels, and SOPs.
  • Remaining flexible to work shifts and overtime as required.
  • Performing all tasks with a focus on safety, professionalism, and efficiency.

Skill and Experience Requirements

Candidates interested in this position should meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizen with proof of citizenship.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities in high-pressure environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player.
  • clear criminal record.
  • Possession of a Code 8 driver’s license, with a Code 10 license preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in airport ground operations, specifically in Ramp, AMC, or OCC roles within an operational environment.
  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly under pressure.

  • Physically fit to handle the physical demands of ramp work.
  • Awareness of safety and situational awareness principles, with appropriate conditioning.
