
CemAir (Pty) Ltd is inviting applications for the position of Trainee Aviation Safety Officer.
Please note that this is NOT an Occupational Health and Safety Position.
The role is entry-level and designed for individuals who are new or entering the aviation industry with a focus on safety.
CemAir is a South African Part 121 / 135 airline based at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist with the collection, entry, analysis, and reporting of safety data using various safety systems (e.g., Centrik).
- Support the Safety Team in conducting investigations of incidents, hazards, and safety reports.
- Help maintain and update the Safety Management System database and documentation.
- Prepare safety-related reports, presentations, and summaries for senior management.
- Assist in tracking corrective actions and safety recommendations through to closure.
- Participate in safety audits, inspections, Management of Change (MOC) development, and safety promotion campaigns.
- Maintain confidential records and ensure data integrity.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to safety culture enhancement.
- This position offers on-the-job mentorship from experienced safety professionals.
- Provides exposure to real-world safety investigations and regulatory frameworks.
Skill and Experience Requirements
- Excellent computer skills – proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), data analysis tools, and the ability to learn company-specific safety software.
- Qualification in aviation, safety management, or a related field is advantageous (or in progress).
- Safety or aviation-related training/certification is an advantage but not essential.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- An analytical mindset with a keen interest in aviation safety.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- High degree of discretion and integrity in handling sensitive safety data.
