The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of Victim Assistant Officer within the Sexual Offences and Community Affairs division.

Centre Locations: Multiple locations including Butterworth, Bongani, Phekolong, Rustenburg, Klerksdorp, Kabokweni Themba, Nelspruit Rob Ferreira, Jozini, George, Karl Bremer, Paarl, Worcester, Wynberg, Atlantis, Mitchells Plain, Phuthaditjhaba.

Job Title and Salary

• Position: Victim Assistant Officer
• Salary: R325,101 per annum (Level 07) (excluding benefits)
• Ref No: As specified for each centre (see the list above).

Requirements

Candidates must possess:

• An appropriate B Degree (NQF Level 7) or a Three-year Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Social Sciences/Behavioral Studies or equivalent.
• A minimum of one year working experience in a gender-based violence environment.

• Demonstrable competency in acting independently, professionally, responsibly, and with credibility.
• Excellent report writing and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to be innovative, proactive, and solution-oriented.

• Knowledge of rape care management, court and police processes.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Good people skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to act independently.
• A valid driver’s license.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Providing victim assistance services within the Thuthuzela Care Centre.
• Establishing early contact with victims on reporting.
• Making follow-up contact within a week.

• Assessing victims’ needs for counseling and other services.
• Referring victims for court preparation, psychological therapy, or other support.
• Ensuring victims are provided with a place of safety when necessary.
• Attending to complaints related to case delays and liaising with stakeholders to accelerate case processes.

• Maintaining a cooperative relationship with all role players to holistically support victims and increase conviction rates.
• Keeping victims informed about the progress of their cases.
• Conducting community awareness sessions.
• Compiling monthly statistics.
