Qualifications and Experience:
- An NQF level 8 qualification in Accounting, Financial Management, Auditing, Risk Management, ICT, or related fields.
- Five (5) years’ experience as a member of an Audit Committee in the public sector.
- An additional three (3) years’ experience as an Audit Committee Chairperson.
- In-depth knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and other relevant prescripts.
- Membership of recognized professional bodies; qualifications such as CA (SA), CCSA, CIA, CICP, CISA, or CFE will be an advantage.
- Demonstrated independence, professionalism, and a proactive advisory approach.
- Broad business, corporate governance, and financial management experience, with public sector familiarity and understanding of risk management and internal controls.
- Candidates must not be employed by the Department and must have no personal or business relationships with the Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Accounting Officer in fulfilling responsibilities under the Public Finance Management Act.
- Review audit efforts, governance processes, risk management, and internal controls.
- Assess the quality, integrity, and reliability of financial and management information.
- Review significant audit findings and financial statements before final approval.
- Monitor internal and external audit activities and provide guidance.
- Attend at least five meetings per year, with flexibility as needed.
- Promote openness and transparency, and support effective management collaboration.
