Department of Electricity and Energy is seeking Audit Committee Members and Chairperson

The Department of Electricity and Energy invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Audit Committee Members and Chairperson (Ref No: DEE 01/2025) on a three-year contract basis.

Post Details:

  • Position: Audit Committee Members and Chairperson
  • Location: Pretoria
  • Salary: In accordance with Treasury/SAICA Tariffs

Qualifications and Experience:

  • An NQF level 8 qualification in Accounting, Financial Management, Auditing, Risk Management, ICT, or related fields.
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a member of an Audit Committee in the public sector.
  • An additional three (3) years’ experience as an Audit Committee Chairperson.

  • In-depth knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and other relevant prescripts.
  • Membership of recognized professional bodiesqualifications such as CA (SA), CCSA, CIA, CICP, CISA, or CFE will be an advantage.

  • Demonstrated independence, professionalism, and a proactive advisory approach.
  • Broad business, corporate governance, and financial management experience, with public sector familiarity and understanding of risk management and internal controls.

  • Candidates must not be employed by the Department and must have no personal or business relationships with the Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Accounting Officer in fulfilling responsibilities under the Public Finance Management Act.
  • Review audit efforts, governance processes, risk management, and internal controls.
  • Assess the quality, integrity, and reliability of financial and management information.

  • Review significant audit findings and financial statements before final approval.
  • Monitor internal and external audit activities and provide guidance.

  • Attend at least five meetings per year, with flexibility as needed.
  • Promote openness and transparency, and support effective management collaboration.
