The Control & Automation Trainee programme is a structured 18-month development initiative designed to equip graduates with essential technical skills and industry experience.

The programme also aims to familiarize participants with SAB’s company culture and principles, ensuring that upon completion, individuals are ready to be assigned immediate responsibilities.

Key Outputs and Responsibilities:

  • Engage in hands-on, self-study to gain comprehensive understanding of control & automation processes, including theory and principles.
  • Apply VPO principles in practical settings.

  • Participate actively in team structures, including acting roles within Maintenance, Planning Systems, and Control Systems.
  • Complete and demonstrate competence in Generic Modules within VPO, covering Engineering Safety, Safety & Environment, Control & Automation.

  • Undertake and successfully complete projects aligned with the Engineering C&A Training Programme.
  • Contribute to projects within the plant environment, aligned with programme requirements and brewery priorities.

  • Develop skills in diagnosing systemic and situational problems and troubleshooting.
  • Communicate learnings and solutions effectively across various levels of the business.

Outputs:

  • Manage and control manufacturing systems infrastructure, including control and automation processes, databases, and applications to ensure system integrity and stability.
  • Proactively optimize manufacturing systems to improve quality, efficiency, and functionality.

  • Lead users through system interventions and change management.
  • Work collaboratively in teams.
  • Coach, guide, and assist in training production employees.

  • Facilitate, manage projects, and develop systems/reports to meet production requirements.
  • Support the alignment of the manufacturing systems environment with the manufacturing systems strategy.

  • Identify and motivate technical CAPEX justification.
  • Enhance knowledge of manufacturing systems, process control, and databases within production.
  • Assist with network, IT support, and process control functions.

Competencies Required:

  • Knowledge of systems, object-oriented programming languages, SQL databases, process modelling, and report development.
  • PLC Programming knowledge (Siemens S7 preferred).
  • Extensive understanding of business processes.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Organizational and facilitation skills.
  • Capable team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.

  • Good understanding of Change Management processes.
  • Enquiring, analytical thinking, and highly assertive.
  • Self-starter with high energy and a bias for action.
  • Working familiarity with international standards (e.g., S88, ANSI SQL).

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSc/BTech in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Information Technology, or a relevant equivalent tertiary qualification.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years relevant experience in Manufacturing Systems Control and Automation environment.
