
UNFPA is seeking a motivated Intern to support the Climate Change and Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR) initiatives within the East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO).

Duration: 12 weeks
Stipend: Interns will receive a stipend to cover basic daily expenses, subject to availability and not exceeding the standard UNFPA rates, especially if not supported by other institutions or scholarships.
Under the supervision of the Programme Specialist for Climate Change and Innovation, the intern will assist the Evidence, Knowledge, and Innovation (EKI) team in organizing events, advocacy, and research on the intersection of climate change, gender, and SRHR.
The internship offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in advocacy, research, and programme support in a dynamic international environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the design and organization of virtual, in-person, and hybrid events related to climate change and SRHR.
- Contribute to climate projects and knowledge management initiatives.
- Assist in disseminating UNFPA’s messaging on climate change and SRHR via various communication platforms.
- Support the development of fundraising proposals for climate finance mechanisms.
- Aid the Communications Unit in creating social media content, press releases, and newsletters to raise awareness of UNFPA’s work.
- Contribute to research activities on climate change impacts on gender equality and SRHR in East and Southern Africa.
- Support the development of knowledge products such as country fact sheets and advocacy tools.
- Assist in training and capacity-building workshops for government and non-governmental stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from a postgraduate degree program in fields such as international development, public health, gender studies, or related areas.
- Demonstrated interest in development issues and commitment to gender equality and climate action.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of other UN languages (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.
- Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to new environments and work harmoniously with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Some experience with development agencies or volunteer work is preferred.
