This position is a contract role at Work Level: Student/Graduate, offering a Market Related Salary.
The successful candidate will undertake a 3-year in-service training experience towards a qualification as a Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic.
This apprenticeship begins with a 6-month probation period, during which either party may withdraw without consequences.
After this period, the apprentice will be bound by an AFGRI contract and commence formal training, which includes:
- Attending Practical Training Institutes for relevant phases (if needed)
- Studying N subjects via distance learning at a college (if available)
- Attending Saturday classes
- Participating in Product Training from John Deere, other suppliers, and AFGRI internal specialists
Please note: There are no training costs involved if the apprentice passes all assessments. However, failed training must be redone at the apprentice’s own expense.
Duties of the Apprentice:
- Training as a Tractor Mechanic / Technician or Earthmoving Mechanic / Technician
- Repair and maintenance of equipment
- Stock control
- Customer service
- General workplace duties
Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Strong Communication Skills
- Good Admin Skills
- Computer literacy
N2 Subjects (any of the following):
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Diesel Trade Theory
- Industrial Electronics OR Engineering / Technical Drawing OR Motor Trade Theory
Alternatively, Matric Certificate with subjects such as:
- Mathematics (not Literacy)
- Technical Mathematics
- Physical Science
- Technical Science
- Engineering Graphics and Design
Applicants without the above qualifications can undertake N2 requirement subjects via Further Education and Training sponsored by AFGRI as part of the program.
