About the Position
The Communications Specialist will contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication strategy for the RBEC region.
Working under the supervision of the Chief, Strategic Partnerships and Communication, the incumbent will support the regional bureau and its leadership in advancing UNDP’s visibility, positioning, and advocacy efforts across Europe and Central Asia.
The role involves coordinating with the Regional Communication Team based in Istanbul, engaging with UNDP Country Offices, and ensuring the coherence and quality of public communication materials.
The Communications Specialist will be a key player in conveying UNDP’s impact, fostering strategic partnerships, and promoting innovative outreach channels.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communication and Advocacy
- Support the design and implementation of the RBEC communication strategy, aligned with UNDP’s global and regional goals.
- Prepare media briefs, advocacy materials, and visibility products to highlight RBEC’s work.
- Develop engaging content including web articles, blogs, speeches, and social media outreach to enhance UNDP’s regional profile.
- Draft and disseminate press releases, media advisories, and success stories.
- Advise senior management on media engagement and public outreach strategies.
Internal and External Communications
- Strengthen internal communication channels to facilitate information sharing within RBEC.
- Provide quality assurance for knowledge products, ensuring they are publication-ready.
- Support the preparation of multimedia materials, reports, and digital campaigns.
- Facilitate the organization of communication training and workshops for RBEC staff.
Partnerships and Outreach
- Foster strategic partnerships with media, digital influencers, and advocacy groups.
- Identify innovative outreach opportunities using digital technologies and social media.
- Collaborate with UNDP bureaus and partners to promote joint initiatives.
Knowledge Management
- Ensure the timely dissemination of key knowledge products and best practices.
- Maintain and revitalize RBEC’s online platforms and workspaces.
- Participate in regional meetings to advise on communication and outreach strategies.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Media Relations, Journalism, Public Relations, or related fields; OR a Bachelor’s degree with an additional 2 years of relevant experience.
Minimum of 7 years (with Master’s) or 9 years (with Bachelor’s) of relevant experience at the national or international level in media, communications, or advocacy.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Proven experience in media relations, digital communication, and social media management.
- Ability to produce high-quality communication materials and knowledge products.
- Strong strategic thinking and innovative outreach skills.
- Experience working with multilateral or international organizations is highly desirable.
- Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of other UN languages relevant to RBEC is a plus.
