Background
Plastics are vital in modern society but pose significant environmental challenges due to unsustainable production and waste management practices.
Plastic pollution contributes to ecosystem destruction, climate change, and health hazards, threatening sustainable development.
To combat this crisis, UNDP has launched the Global Plastics Offer, which emphasizes:
- Policy and regulation
- Innovation and technology
- Waste management
- Capacity development and knowledge sharing
The Chemicals and Waste Hub within UNDP’s Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) supports over 85 countries in managing chemicals and waste safely, with a focus on reducing plastic pollution.
Scope of Work
The intern will assist the team under the guidance of the Global Lead for UNDP’s Global Plastics Offer and supervised by Policy and Technical Specialists.
Responsibilities include:
Research and Analysis (40%)
- Conduct literature reviews on plastics lifecycle and innovations
- Review policies and market-based strategies to address plastic pollution
- Identify successful country-level projects and good practices
- Research corporate strategies for reducing plastic pollution
Communication and Knowledge Management (40%)
- Contribute to communication and advocacy strategies
- Draft blogs, stories, brochures, newsletters, social media content, and presentations
- Identify thought leaders and influencers
- Support knowledge exchange activities like webinars and events
Administrative Support (20%)
- Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and conferences
- Maintain team calendars and distribution lists
- Provide logistical support for events
Qualifications and Skills
Eligibility:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program or in the final year of a first university degree
- Graduated within the past year (for immediate start)
- Field of study: communication, journalism, marketing, environmental sciences, sustainability, development studies, or related
Required Skills:
- Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
- Strong research and analytical abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
- Experience with graphic design or video editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro) is an advantage

- Passionate about environmental issues and plastic pollution
- Organized, proactive, and reliable
