The Position: Grants Officer
The Royal Geographical Society is seeking a dynamic and organized Grants Officer to coordinate and promote its grants programme.
This full-time, permanent role reports directly to the Director of Research, Education, and Professional, working across all Society divisions including research, education, and outdoor learning.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary range: £34,600 to £37,765 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Location: South Kensington, London.

Job Description: Grants Officer
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the main contact for all grant-related enquiries, managing applications, inviting reviewers, and organizing panels.
- Maintain and develop the grants section of the Society’s website and internal databases.
- Promote the grants programme nationally and internationally through various channels.
- Prepare and update application forms and guidelines, ensuring adherence to best practices in ethics, safety, inclusion, and sustainability.
- Oversee grant payments in collaboration with the Finance team.
- Engage with sponsors and donors, supporting their stewardship and communication.
- Maintain ongoing contact with grant recipients, requesting reports and tracking outputs and outcomes.
- Prepare reports for Society committees and raise the profile of the grants programme and funded projects.
- Keep the Director of Research, Education, and Professional fully informed of all grant-related matters.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Degree level education, preferably in geography or related fields, with at least two years of relevant experience.
- Broad interest and knowledge of geography (both human and physical), environmental issues, and global affairs.
- Strong understanding of the grant-giving process and key stakeholders.
- Well-organized, efficient, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent administrative, database, and web skills.
- Ability to manage financial aspects of grants effectively.
- Effective communication skills, tact, and discretion, both online and face-to-face.
- Experience in data research and reporting, with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated drive, enthusiasm, and initiative.
