The UN Foundation is seeking a Social Media Intern to join their dynamic and collaborative team.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the creation and management of compelling content for the Foundation’s social media channels.

The ideal candidate will be an active participant in content planning, creation, and management, helping to deliver impactful digital engagement that creatively and uniquely highlights the story of the United Nations and its global impact.

About the Role

The Social Media Intern will be a savvy, ambitious, and multi-skilled content leader in the making.

They will provide support for the day-to-day content creation for the UN Foundation’s social media presence and bring fresh, creative ideas for developing engaging and attention-grabbing content.

The intern should possess fluency or a strong interest in developing skills across various social media platforms, including proficiency in content planning, copywriting, research, design, video production, and analytics.

Furthermore, the successful candidate will be passionate about the UN Foundation’s core issues and policy priorities, such as climate change, gender equality, and global health. They will also demonstrate a deep interest in leveraging communications to contribute to a better world.

Internship Details

This is a paid internship opportunity. The internship will run from May 27th, 2025, to August 29th, 2025. The position offers an hourly compensation rate of $17.50 – $20 per hour.

Essential Functions

The Social Media Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Working collaboratively with Global Communications and Engagement colleagues to support the planning, creation, management, publishing, and data analysis of digital content.
  • Drafting copy for a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, X (formerly Twitter), WhatsApp, and toolkits.

  • Conducting research on topics, audiences, creative assets, and channels to inform content planning.
  • Monitoring social media channels for emerging issues, trends, and opportunities for real-time engagement and conversation, and sharing listening observations with the team.

  • Supporting the collection and analysis of data and drafting reports.
  • Providing support on video or design projects, based on prior experience and/or interest.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university in communications, marketing, public affairs, journalism, or a related field.
  • Possess exceptional writing skills, particularly for digital channels.

  • Demonstrate familiarity or experience working with social media management tools such as Hootsuite.
  • Have familiarity, interest in, or experience working with photo, design, and video software/tools.

  • Be creative, savvy, and up-to-speed with digital communications trends and good practice.
  • Exhibit a strong desire to learn and put theory into practice on the job.
  • Previous communications internship experience is considered a plus.

  • Possess excellent attention to detail.
  • Show initiative to find and propose new projects, both for themselves and for the team.
  • Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively as needed.
  • Be able to meet the regular attendance/tardiness policy.

  • Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.
  • Must be available to work a maximum of 29 hours per week.
