
Applications are now ongoing for the TWAS-SN Bose Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2025.
The TWAS-SN Bose Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is a collaborative initiative between the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Science in Kolkata, India, and TWAS.
This programme is designed for foreign scholars from developing countries who wish to pursue postdoctoral research in physical sciences in India.
Programme Overview
The TWAS-SN Bose Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Science.
These fellowships support postdoctoral research in the physical sciences for a duration of a minimum of six months to a maximum of twelve months.
The Centre conducts research across various areas within the physical sciences.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for this fellowship must meet the following criteria:
- They must be a maximum age of 45 years on 31 December of the year of application.
- They must be nationals of a developing country (other than India).
- They must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in India or any developed country.
- They should be regularly employed in a developing country (other than India) and hold a research assignment there.
- They must hold a PhD degree in physics, mathematics, physical chemistry, or a related branch of physical sciences.
- Applicants must be accepted by a department of the S.N. Bose National Centre. Prospective applicants are encouraged to identify a potential supervisor and contact them. Requests for preliminary acceptance should be directed to the Dean (Academic Programme) at the S.N. Bose National Centre.
- Evidence of proficiency in English is required if the medium of education was not English.
- Applicants must provide evidence that they will return to their home country on completion of the fellowship.
- They must not take up other assignments during the fellowship period.
- Applicants are financially responsible for any accompanying family members.
Application Process and Deadlines
Applications for the TWAS-SN Bose Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme can ONLY be submitted via the online portal.
Important Deadlines:
- Deadline to apply for a Preliminary Acceptance Letter to SN Bose Center: 16 August 2025.
- Last date of issuance of Preliminary Acceptance Letters by SN Bose Center: 31 August 2025.
- Deadline to submit the application form and all required documents to TWAS via the TWAS online portal: 22 September 2025 (midnight CEST time).
Applicants are encouraged to apply for the preliminary acceptance letter as early as possible.
An Acceptance Letter from a department of the S.N. Bose National Centre is required for the application to be considered.
Applicants may apply for only one programme per calendar year within the TWAS and OWSD portfolio.
Financial Support and Facilities
The S.N. Bose National Centre will provide a monthly stipend to cover living costs and food. On-campus accommodation may also be provided.
The monthly stipend does not cover comprehensive health insurance. Fellows are required to have their own medical insurance after joining the programme to cover medical emergencies.
The language of instruction is English.
