
The Robert Schuman Traineeship Programme 2025 at the European Parliament is now open!
The Schuman traineeships are paid positions offering valuable experience at one of the European Parliament’s official places of work, including Brussels, Luxembourg, and Strasbourg, or in its Liaison Offices in the Member States.
These traineeships are named in honor of Robert Schuman, a key figure in the European integration project, whose vision has contributed to over 70 years of peace and prosperity in Europe.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a Schuman traineeship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be aged 18 or over.
- Fulfill the language requirement.
- Provide a university level diploma(s).
- Provide an eligible criminal record.
- Not have worked for more than two consecutive months within an EU institution or body.
- Not have carried out a Study Visit in the Secretariat of the European Parliament six months prior to the beginning of the traineeship.
Application Periods
Applications for the Schuman traineeships are accepted during specific periods:
- For the October-February traineeship: Apply in May. The deadline for application is the 31st of May, 23:59 (Brussels time).
- For the March-July traineeship: Apply in October. The deadline for application is the 31st of October, 23:59 (Brussels time).
Eligibility Check
Shortlisted applicants will be required to upload all the necessary documents to verify their eligibility. It is highly recommended to have all the required documents ready for upload before receiving the shortlisted message. The link to upload the documents in the shortlisted message expires automatically after 14 days. Required documents include:
- ID/Passport
- University diploma(s)
- Criminal Record
Admissions
Selected applicants will be contacted by the Trainee Outreach and Recruitment Unit. The admission process follows these steps: 1. Offer sent, 2. Offer acceptance, 3. Admission letter issued.
- For the October Traineeship: Admissions take place between the 1st of July and the 31st of August.
- For the March Traineeship: Admissions take place between the 1st of December and the 31st of January.
How to Apply
The application process for a traineeship offer is a straightforward two-step procedure:
1. Register
To create an account, applicants must:
- Visit the Traineeship offers main page.
- Select an offer they would like to apply for.
- Click on the button Apply online.
- Complete the New registration form with their personal data.
2. Apply
To apply for a traineeship offer, applicants must:
- Select an offer they would like to apply for.
- Login to their account.
- Upload their CV (only Europass Format).
- Upload a motivation letter per traineeship offer (maximum one page).
Applicants can only apply for 3 traineeship offers per campaign. Applying for more than 3 traineeship offers will result in disqualification.
Selection Process
Following the application, the selection process involves several stages:

Applicants are shortlisted based on the applications received.
Shortlisting Period
- For the October Traineeship: The shortlist is done between the 1st of July and the 15th of July.
- For the March Traineeship: The shortlist is done between the 1st of December and the 15th of December.
Welcome to the EP
Successful applicants will officially begin their Schuman traineeship.
- For the October Traineeship: The traineeship begins on the 1st of October.
- For the March Traineeship: The traineeship begins on the 1st of March.
