
The Learn Africa postgraduate scholarship programme, a flagship initiative of the Women for Africa Foundation, is pleased to announce its 2025-2026 edition.
The scholarship is offering new opportunities to African women aspiring to advance their academic and research careers.
With over 13 years of experience, the programme has awarded 445 scholarships to 403 African women from 36 countries, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to fostering female talent, leadership, and development across the continent.
This edition highlights:
13 new scholarships, including a record 5 PhD scholarships, supported by partner institutions such as Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio (funding two PhD scholarships).
36% of scholarships will be delivered in English or bilingual English-Spanish formats, broadening access across Africa.
Introduction of new study areas aligned with global challenges, such as Veterinary Science, Computational Intelligence and the Internet of Things, Regenerative Biology, and Applied Psychology Research.
Over 50% of scholarships will be for in-person or blended programmes, offering recipients the unique opportunity to study in Spain and engage in cultural and linguistic exchange.

- Supported by more than 60 partners, including universities, business schools, and private entities.
- Universidad de La Laguna (ULL) joins as a new partner offering 4 in-person master’s scholarships.
- GMV Innovating Solutions continues its sponsorship of doctoral scholarships since 2017, and Anesvad Foundation funds 2 research scholarships on Neglected Tropical Diseases.
Learn Africa 2025-2026 aims to open doors, boost careers, and strengthen the role of African women in development through higher education and research.
Important Dates:
- Registration period: Open until May 8, 2025, 23:59 (Madrid time).
Who Can Apply:
- Women of African nationality and residence.
- Enrolled in or graduated from an African university, with Bachelor’s degrees required for postgraduate scholarships, as specified in each scholarship description.
- One application per person will be accepted.
Technical and Academic Requirements:
- Carefully review the study description and university website links for specific academic requirements.
- Be prepared to provide duly legalized, certified, and translated copies of your degree and academic records upon selection.
- For online scholarships, applicants must have a properly equipped computer and stable internet connection.
- Language proficiency: A B2 or C1 level in the language of instruction (English or Spanish), demonstrated through an official certificate or interview.

All files must meet the following:
- Format: png, gif, jpg, jpeg, pdf, doc, docx, ppt, or rtf.
- Maximum size: 4MB.
Scholarship Coverage:
- Online scholarships: Cover only tuition fees.
- Face-to-face programmes: Cover tuition fees, round-trip travel, accommodation and meals, health insurance.
- PLANETA scholarships: Cover tuition fees only; expenses like travel, lodging, and living costs are borne by the recipient.
Note: The scholarship does not cover:
- Re-enrollment fees, visa costs, degree legalization, certificates, daily expenses, or family support.
- Recipients are advised to bring savings to cover unforeseen expenses and personal needs.

- Ensure eligibility and prepare all documents.
- For in-person scholarships, verify your passport validity (more than 6 months).
- Be aware that some expenses (visa, legalization, personal costs) are not covered and should be self-funded or covered by savings.
