Background
The Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (RBLAC) provides strategic leadership, oversight, and support to UNDP Country Offices across the region, aiming to accelerate progress on human development, sustainable growth, and resilience.
RBLAC plays a pivotal role in regional coordination, policy dialogue, and advocacy, working closely with partners such as the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
UNDP is seeking a Political Economy Analyst to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Development Policy Team, offering critical socio-political analyses to inform regional and national development strategies.
The ideal candidate will support the dissemination of the Regional Human Development Report (RHDR) 2025 and provide insights into the political, social, and economic dynamics shaping development outcomes in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Key Responsibilities
Support the dissemination of RHDR 2025 at regional and country levels, including developing presentations, opinion columns, and dissemination products to position UNDP as a thought leader.
Coordinate the rollout of the report to country offices, preparing country-specific briefs, recommendations, and presentations.
Develop briefing notes and informational materials to support participation in meetings, workshops, missions, conferences, and side events related to RHDR 2025.
Create engaging content such as #Graph for Thought blogs on issues like migration, democracy, and development.
Participate in regional meetings and fora, advocating for UNDP’s ideas and influencing the agenda.
Facilitate knowledge-sharing, capacity building, and advocacy on thematic areas related to political economy and sustainable development.
Perform additional duties as necessary to support the office’s effectiveness and organizational goals.

Educational Background:
- Advanced Degree (Master’s) in Economics, Political Economy, Public Policy, Administration, or related fields, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Or Bachelor’s Degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
Professional Experience:
- Minimum 2 years (with Master’s) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s) of experience in development, policy analysis, and research.
- Proven ability to develop conceptual frameworks and evidence-based analysis.
- Strong publication record on development issues.
Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with UN development system policies and practices.
- Experience working on political, social, and economic issues in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Ability to analyze data and trends pertinent to the region.
- Experience collaborating with governments, donors, NGOs, and development organizations.
- Skills in web-based management systems, report drafting, and editing are assets.
Languages:
- Fluency in Spanish and English is mandatory.
