Call for Applications: Consultancy on Mapping Advocacy for Women’s Rights in Portuguese-Speaking African Countries

The African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) is a Pan-African feminist fund dedicated to resourcing, strengthening, and upholding feminist movement partners and women’s rights organizations (WROs) across Africa.

Our mission is to make gender justice a reality for all on our continent and worldwide.

AWDF invites qualified consultants to apply for a mapping consultancy focused on feminist movement partners, WROs, networks, and coalitions in the Portuguese-speaking region of Africa.

The scope of work includes identifying:

  • Active feminist partners: individuals, community-based organizations, small non-traditional actors, emerging collectives, and large-scale organizations working at grassroots, local, sub-national, national, and regional levels.
  • Advocacy issues: the themes and causes they champion across different levels.

  • Contextual factors: social, cultural, and socio-economic influences shaping their agendas.
  • Target audiences: the specific groups and institutions they aim to influence.
  • Activism approaches: strategies related to networking, peer learning, organizing, and movement building.

  • Support needs: institutional strengthening requirements of feminist partners and WROs.
  • Funding landscape: donors supporting these efforts within the focus countries.

The findings will inform AWDF’s programming and may be shared with other women’s funds and donors supporting this work.

Focus Countries: Angola, Mozambique, Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe, Guinea-Bissau, and Cape Verde.

Consultant’s Profile

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Registration status and be based in and working within Africa.
  • Leadership by women and/or gender-diverse persons.
  • Expertise in women’s rights advocacy, organizations, and movements within the focus countries.

  • Experience in participatory stakeholder mapping methods.
  • Proficiency in English and Portuguese (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a flexible, collaborative attitude.
  • Strong commitment to feminist values, human rights, equality, and diversity.

Duration of the Assignment

The consultancy is scheduled for 20 working days, including the submission of the final report.

  • First draft due: June 30, 2025.
  • Final report due: July 7, 2025.
