2026 Women’s Congressional Policy Institute Congressional Fellowships now open!

The Women’s Congressional Policy Institute (WCPI) is pleased to announce that the application period for the 2026 WCPI Congressional Fellowships is now open!

This premier opportunity is designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders in public policy with a focus on issues affecting women and their families.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program or have completed such a program within two years of the fellowship start date.
  • Must have completed at least nine hours of graduate coursework prior to applying.

  • Demonstrate a serious interest in research and policymaking related to issues affecting women and their families.
  • Be legally eligible to work in the United States at the time of application.
  • Demonstrate fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Why choose the Congressional Fellowship on Women and Public Policy?
This fellowship aims to develop future leaders capable of examining policy issues from the perspectives, experiences, and needs of women.

Managed by WCPI, it is the only graduate-level fellowship program on Capitol Hill dedicated specifically to women’s issues.

What does a Fellow do?
Fellows work 40 hours per week in a congressional office, serving as legislative assistants on policy issues related to women.

They participate in weekly issue seminars led by WCPI staff to deepen their understanding of policy development.

What are the selection criteria?
Candidates are evaluated based on academic competence, demonstrated interest in public policy, articulateness, adaptability, and strong writing skills.

Applicants from diverse academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

What is the fellowship award?
Fellows will receive a stipend of approximately $4,400 gross per month for a seven-month period (January–July). An additional $1,000 is provided to assist with health insurance costs.

Application Guidelines

Applicants must submit the following materials to be considered. Please note that no exceptions will be made for incomplete applications after the deadline:

  • Resume
  • Official academic transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Responses to two essay questions
  • Fully completed application form (submitted via the online portal)

What is the application deadline?
The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, June 13, 2025. Applications must be submitted via the online portalno exceptions.

Semi-finalists will be interviewed in July, with fellowship awards announced in early August.
