Role Overview
The Project Accountant will be responsible for providing financial and grant management support to the Environmental Programmes Team.
Key responsibilities include maintaining and reconciling accounting records, budget planning, financial forecasting, and ensuring project compliance with donor requirements.

- Budget planning and preparation, including financial forecasting and variance analysis.
- Produce project-specific reports, ensuring accuracy and adherence to donor mandates.
- Manage quarterly and monthly financial and budget cycles.
- Facilitate budget revisions and communicate with program staff regularly.
- Assist the Programme Manager in developing funding contracts and proposals.
- Collaborate with project managers on financial monitoring and variance analysis.
- Provide detailed explanations for financial reports as needed.
- Respond to donor inquiries for detailed financial information.
- Liaise with auditors and compile necessary documentation for project audits.
- Monitor report accuracy from NetSuite and manage the yearly budget import.
- Stay updated on programmatic developments through regular interaction with staff.
- Ensure maximum cost recovery, including overhead costs on all projects.
Minimum Requirements
- Financial / Accounting Degree or Diploma
- 3 – 5 years’ experience as an Accountant
- Experience in a complex project-driven environment
- Advanced proficiency in computing and office communication tools, especially Business Management Systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
- Superior writing and verbal skills in English and at least one other South African language.
- Proficient in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
- Excellent relationship-building and planning skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a solutions-focused mindset.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and meet conflicting deadlines.
- Professional demeanor in all personal interactions.
- A positive attitude and a genuine passion for conservation and people.
