GIZ Capacity Development Internships for the Implementation of Rwanda’s NDCs

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a German Federal Government agency, is inviting applications for an internship in Kigali, Rwanda.

The monthly intern salary is €2,205.04 (gross), and an additional monthly expatriation allowance may be provided, determined by GIZ based on the country of assignment.

The internships are for the project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of Rwanda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).”

For over 50 years, GIZ has been a key player in supporting the global implementation of development policy goals.

With operations in 120 countries, GIZ collaborates with various partner organizations on a diverse array of projects aimed at fostering meaningful work and a better life for all.

Project Overview:
The project focuses on enhancing the institutional and financial frameworks for both governmental and non-governmental actors in Rwanda. Its goal is to effectively coordinate, implement, finance, and monitor the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

By providing technical support, policy advice, and capacity development, the project will engage the Ministry of Environment, other government ministries, the private sector, civil society organizations, and academic institutions, all of which play a vital role in successful NDC implementation.

Internship Responsibilities:
During the internship, the successful candidate will be tasked with the following:

  • Assisting in the implementation of the project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of Rwanda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)” and facilitating the Rwandan-German Climate and Development Partnership.

  • Contributing to the coordination, monitoring, and execution of dialogue formats between local stakeholders and development partners engaged in NDC implementation.
  • Supporting the design, execution, and assessment of project activities targeting private sector, civil society, and academic institutions.

  • Aiding in project monitoring, knowledge management, and reporting.
  • Helping in the planning, coordination, and organization of internal and external project events, including workshops and conferences.

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate should meet the following qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled students in their 4th semester or higher, holding (very) good academic standing and possessing a recommendation for an international internship abroad.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and German; knowledge of French is an advantage.

  • Relevant practical experience in international professional contexts, such as development cooperation or within civil society organizations.
  • A strong interest in development cooperation focusing on Africa or similar contexts.

  • Ability to work independently and adaptively within an intercultural team, along with high reliability, discretion, and motivation.
  • A structured and self-organized working style, coupled with creativity and strong communication, presentation, and moderation skills.

  • Willingness to live and work in Kigali, Rwanda.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
