The Ocean Literacy Task Team of the ECOP Programme is excited to announce an incredible opportunity for individuals passionate about the ocean to join the BBNJ Hackathon.
This epic online video challenge aims to protect the High Seas and support the new BBNJ Agreement (Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction).
Who Can Apply?
This challenge is open to ocean enthusiasts, young professionals, students, and activists. No experience is necessary; only a passion for the ocean is required!
🌍 Why Are We Doing This?
The High Seas, which cover nearly two-thirds of our global ocean, belong to everyone yet remain unprotected.
The BBNJ Agreement is a significant step towards more inclusive ocean governance; however, laws alone won’t protect our oceans. We need the powerful, human stories of individuals like YOU to inspire change.
To activate the BBNJ Agreement, at least 60 countries must ratify it. This Hackathon seeks to gather impactful stories that can reach decision-makers, businesses, youth networks, and the global public.
🎯 The Video Challenges
Participants will choose from the following engaging challenges:
- BBNJ & You: Why It Matters to Everyone, Everywhere
- The Ocean Future We Can Build Together
- Be a Blue Citizen: Your Voice for the High Seas
Your videos will be aimed at a diverse audience, including:
- Policy-makers
- Private sector leaders
- Youth advocates
- The general public
