
The World Health Organization (WHO) is pleased to announce the Call for Applications for its inaugural online training course focused on the Urban Health Capacity Assessment and Response Resource Kit.
This training is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of urban practitioners and facilitators dedicated to improving urban health outcomes.
Important Dates:
- Deadline for Submission: 17 May 2025
- Call for Consultation: 10 April 2025
- Training Dates: Online training sessions will be held on 13, 20, 27 June, and 4 July 2025
Webinar Format:
- Duration: 4 online sessions, each lasting 1.5 hours, spread over four consecutive weeks.
- Preparation: Participants are expected to allocate an additional 4 hours for offline preparation.
Target Audience:
Teams:
- Cross-sectoral teams of 3-4 individuals who have identified a common urban health goal.
- Applicants must come from at least two different sectors (e.g., built environment, health services, environment and climate resilience).
- Candidates may represent public or private institutions, including local or national government agencies and civil society organizations.
Individuals:
- Experienced facilitators of intersectoral urban health processes with a strong connection to local government.
- Ideal candidates will have experience in joint planning exercises or inter-agency collaborations and work within local government, academia, or civil society organizations aimed at enhancing urban health.
Expected Number of Participants: Approximately 30 individuals/teams.
Training Background:
The WHO training addresses pressing urban health challenges posed by rapid urbanization, climate change, and socio-economic inequities.
This resource kit equips participants with the tools to assess their capacities and strategically respond to urban health needs.
Ultimately, it aims to guide stakeholders in enhancing health and wellbeing across urban environments by fostering collaborative efforts.
Training Objectives:
Primary Objective:
- Cultivate awareness of essential cross-disciplinary capacities for urban health action and policy-making.
Specific Objectives:
- Form a professional cohort skilled in the application of the Urban Health Capacity Assessment and Response Resource Kit.
- Enhance participants’ ability to identify and address urban health challenges through a capacity-based approach.
- Promote collaboration and peer-to-peer learning among urban health professionals.
Training Content:
Participants will explore key aspects of urban health capacities, such as:
- Informed decision-making and policy coherence.
- Sustainable financing and resource mobilization.
- Partnerships and community participation.
Target Competencies:
Participants will develop the ability to:
- Conduct urban health capacity assessments using the Resource Kit.
- Identify critical capacity gaps in urban systems.
- Create actionable response strategies tailored to local contexts.
- Utilize participatory processes to improve urban governance.
Format and Commitment:
- Contact Time: 4 sessions (1.5 hours each) alongside 4 hours of offline preparation.
- Delivery: Online via Zoom, incorporating expert presentations and collaborative exercises.
- Certification: Participants fulfilling attendance and engagement requirements will be awarded a certificate of completion.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in relevant fields, or 3 years with an advanced degree.
- Education: Bachelor’s level university degree.
- Skills: Experience in multi-sectoral settings, with a focus on urban health.
- Language: Excellent command of the English language.
- Team Applications: Preference for teams from at least two different sectors or organizations.

- A personal video statement (max 5 minutes) addressing:
- Motivation for participation and application of the Resource Kit.
- Responses to two scenario-based questions regarding past urban health projects and facilitating experiences.
