Call for Applications: Ford Environmental Grants Program 2025

The Ford Environmental Grants Program is now accepting applications for the year 2025.
This initiative aims to support projects that have a meaningful impact on the community and contribute to environmental sustainability in the region.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Ford Environmental Grants, projects must adhere to the following criteria:
- Project Leadership: Must be led by legally constituted non-profit organizations with their own bank account.
- Community Impact: The project should demonstrate a positive impact on the community.
- Alignment with SDGs: It must explicitly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Environmental Education: Projects must incorporate environmental education actions in their interventions.
- Public-Private Alliances: Support for the project through public-private alliances is mandatory to ensure sustainability.
Geographic Restrictions
Eligible projects must be executed within Puerto Rico, Panama, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Guatemala.
Project Status
Only projects that are currently being executed and can demonstrate relevant preliminary results will be considered.
Projects that have not been initiated will not be evaluated. Additionally, projects that received funding in the previous round of the program are not eligible, although projects funded in other years may submit proposals for evaluation.
Categories for Submission
Applicants must select one of the following four categories that best represents the project’s primary environmental contribution:
- Conservation and Recovery of Biodiversity: Protection and conservation of ecosystems, flora, and fauna.
- Food Security: Ecological agriculture and sustainable management of ecosystems for vulnerable communities.
- Waste Management: Projects focused on reducing, reusing, recycling, and recovering waste in communities.
- Renewable Energy: Promotion of energy sources derived from renewable natural resources to combat climate change.
Execution Timeline & Budget
Selected projects are required to be executed technically and financially within a maximum period of 12 months.
The submitted budget must reflect specific use of funds for execution costs and cannot cover operational expenses like salaries, benefits, or travel costs.
Evaluation Process
A jury of independent experts will evaluate proposals based on criteria including:
- Contribution to Sustainable Development
- Community Impact
- Multisectoral Partnerships
- Multiplying Effect
The jury will score each proposal on a scale of 1-5 based on the quality of each criterion. Projects that do not align with the indicated categories will be disqualified.
The jury retains the right to request further information or documentation through virtual interviews.
Commitment of Winning Projects
Organizations of winning projects must:
- Submit a Progress Report six months after receiving funding, and a Final Report within 12 months.
- Provide requested documentation showing project progress.
- Authorize the use of project materials for promotional purposes by Ford’s offices.
- Participate in publicity efforts and events to disseminate project information.
- Use the Ford Environmental Grants logo in project materials for one year following funding approval.
Application Submission
Organizations interested in applying for the Ford Environmental Grants are encouraged to submit their applications during the registration period from April 22, 2025, to May 30, 2025.

All materials submitted for evaluation are non-returnable and will become the property of Ford’s offices for Central America and the Caribbean. The decisions of the jury are final and irrevocable.
