Mission:
Legal Aid of Marin (LAM) is dedicated to providing no-cost, holistic civil legal services and resources to individuals in Marin County who are experiencing poverty and those who have historically faced marginalization.

LAM’s mission is to foster an equitable Marin by empowering community members through legal representation, advocacy, and education.

The organization envisions an inclusive Marin where equal justice and opportunity are afforded to all.

Impact:
Each year, LAM provides thousands of Marin residents with vital access to civil legal services. Key service areas include eviction defense, homelessness prevention, wage claims, employment law, and fines and fees alleviation.

Staff members engage in collaborative outreach efforts with community-based organizations to provide legal assistance where clients live, work, and gather.

The organization practices trauma-informed lawyering and is committed to increasing equity for all marginalized communities in Marin.

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Associate will play a crucial role in supporting LAM’s development and fundraising efforts.

This includes responsibilities such as:

  • Ensuring funder compliance through preparation of grant reports and adherence to deadlines.
  • Processing donations accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining LAM’s donor database (currently Salesforce) ensuring data accuracy and integrity.

  • Drafting grant applications and funding proposals with oversight from the Executive Director.
  • Identifying and strategizing on new funding opportunities.

  • Supporting the planning and execution of major organizational events, such as Jam for Justice and the Pro Bono Luncheon.
  • Collaborating on communication strategies to engage donors and attract new supporters.

This is a newly established position offering exceptional opportunities for professional growth in the nonprofit sector, particularly in fundraising and development.

Essential Duties:

  • Drive compliance by preparing grant reports and managing administrative deliverables.
  • Process donations and maintain the donor database.
  • Draft and compile grant proposals and funding requests.

  • Identify new funding sources and develop outreach strategies.
  • Coordinate hallmark events and fundraising campaigns.

  • Collaborate on annual reports and donor engagement strategies.
  • Support the Board of Directors and drive annual campaigns like Giving Tuesday.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to LAM’s mission, serving marginalized communities.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in nonprofit development or a related role.
  • Passion for mission-driven fundraising and development.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, especially with diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and Canva; graphic design skills are a plus.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Compensation:
The salary range for the Development Associate position is $70,000 – $75,000, commensurate with experience and competencies.

Benefits include 15 paid holidays, vacation leave, comprehensive health benefits, and a retirement plan with employer contribution.

On-Site Requirement:
The candidate must work on-site three days per week in San Rafael, California. After an initial onboarding period, remote work may be authorized for two days per week, but the candidate must remain flexible to meet organizational needs.
