The UNICEF Internship Programme provides qualified and eligible students at Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) with a unique opportunity to gain direct practical experience in UNICEF’s operations and the United Nations system under the supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

Purpose of the Assignment:

The Division of Public Partnerships (PPD) aims to strengthen UNICEF’s position as the partner of choice for children’s rights among governments and public actors globally.

The intern will gain practical experience by supporting the office’s advocacy, communication, and visibility activities under the guidance of the Public Partnership Specialist.

Specific Tasks:

Under the supervision of the Public Partnership Specialist, the intern will:

  • Assist in enhancing donor visibility and UNICEF’s advocacy messages by gathering and organizing information for key counterparts and media.
  • Update and improve the Tokyo office’s website and social media accounts as necessary.

  • Assist the team in translating UNICEF messages, press releases, and other publications.
  • Provide logistical support for events, consultations, and workshops organized by the office.
  • Undertake any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Duration of Assignment: Between July 2025 and March 2026 (more than 3 months, up to 6 months).
Duty Station: Tokyo, Japan.

Qualifications:

To qualify as an advocate for every child, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a university or graduate school, or have graduated within the last two years; professional experiences are desirable.
  • Available for work at least 4 days per week for a duration of 3-6 months.

  • Demonstrated interest in UNICEF’s areas of operation, such as child rights, child protection, education, health, nutrition, and gender.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of international cooperation, humanitarian, and development assistance.

  • Experience in translating communication materials is highly desirable.
  • Background in public relations and/or event management is an asset.

  • Experience managing websites and social media platforms is also advantageous.
  • A high level of proficiency in both written and oral English and Japanese is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additional Information:

  • Stipend: PPD Tokyo will provide a lump sum of JPY 5,500/day (USD 40), inclusive of transport costs.
  • Work Modality: Work modality is negotiable based on the team’s schedule, which follows a hybrid work model that may include both office and teleworking days.

  • The selected candidate is responsible for ensuring the validity of their visa (if applicable) and health insurance for the entire contract duration.
