TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme 2025 (Fully-funded to Pakistan)

The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) in Karachi, Pakistan, in partnership with TWAS, invites applications for the TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme.

This prestigious fellowship targets young scientists from developing countries (excluding Pakistan) keen on pursuing research toward a PhD in the fields of chemical and biological sciences.

  • Application Opening Date: 17 April 2025
  • Application Closing Date: 14 August 2025 (midnight CEST time)
  • Duration: Minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 12 months
  • Eligible Nationalities: Nationals from developing countries in the South

  • Host Country: Pakistan
  • Minimum Degree Required: Master’s degree (MSc)
  • Age Limit: Maximum 35 years as of 31 December of the application year
  • Sandwich Option Available: YES

Programme Details

The TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme offers opportunities in the following research fields:

  1. Agricultural Sciences
  2. Structural, Cell and Molecular Biology
  3. Biological Systems and Organisms
  4. Medical and Health Sciences (including Neurosciences)
  5. Chemical Sciences

Fellowships are tenable at ICCBS, which consists of the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research.

Applicants must be registered for a PhD degree in their home country (SANDWICH option) to apply for the fellowship.

ICCBS will provide a monthly stipend intended to cover living expenses such as food, accommodation, local transportation, and minor medical illnesses.

The monthly stipend is non-convertible into foreign currency. The language of instruction for the programme is English.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a maximum age of 35 years on 31 December of the application year.
  • Hold a Master’s degree in a field of natural sciences.
  • Be a national of a developing country (excluding Pakistan).

  • Not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residence in Pakistan or any developed country.
  • Provide a certificate of good health from a qualified medical doctor.
  • Be registered PhD students in their home country and provide the “Registration and No Objection Certificate” from their home university.

  • Provide an official Preliminary Acceptance Letter from ICCBS.
    • Requests for acceptance must be directed to Prof. Dr. Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS (Email: raza.shah@iccs.edu or protocol.iccbs@iccs.edu).
    • The request for a letter must include the applicant’s CV, a research proposal outline, and two reference letters.

  • Provide evidence of English proficiency if the medium of education was not English.
  • Demonstrate intent to return to their home country upon completion of the fellowship.
  • Refrain from taking up other assignments during the fellowship period.
  • Be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.

Application Submission

Applications must be submitted via the online portal. The deadline for receipt of applications is 14 August 2025 (midnight CEST time).

  • Preliminary Acceptance Letter from ICCBS is mandatory at the time of application or by the application deadline.
  • Reference letters must be signed and printed on letter-headed paper.
  • Applicants may apply for only one programme per calendar year within the TWAS and OWSD portfolio.
