The Research Lab (TRL, 2025) is thrilled to announce a 4-month, non-residential program dedicated to experimentation, research, and artistic development, culminating in a month of studio work and a final exhibition.

This initiative aims to provide a enriching environment for emerging artists to develop their creative practices through collaboration and mentorship.
Program Overview:
TRL, 2025 will admit 8 participants who will engage in an interdisciplinary learning experience alongside two lead curators and guest facilitators.
Participants will have the opportunity to foster the exchange of knowledge through various formats, including:
- Workshops & lectures
- Studio visits & gallery visits
- Group discussions & excursions
Why TRL, 2025?
The program’s mission is to bridge the gap between research and artistic practice, examining how both formal and informal study can refine an artist’s work, transforming raw talent into a skilled, sustainable practice.
TRL emphasizes the significance of engaging with art history and theory to inform and deepen creative expression, inspiring artists to expand their horizons and elevate their work.
Who Should Apply?
TRL invites artists aged 18 to 35 years who are based in Uganda to apply for this transformative program.

Application Requirements:
Interested artists must submit the following materials:
- CV or Artist Bio: A current document highlighting your artistic journey.
- Portfolio: 5 high-quality still images of your artwork.
- Online Presence: Links to your social media platforms or professional websites.
- Research Proposal: A two-paragraph proposal outlining:
- Your research focus within your field of specialization.
- Your intended creative process and expected outcomes.
