The Institute for Government (IfG) invites applications for the exciting one-year 2025–26 research internship programme, commencing in September 2025.
At IfG, the dedicated research staff engage in thought-provoking discussions, conduct in-depth writing, and strive to enhance the effectiveness of government.
Through various research methodologies, we tackle a myriad of themes within the work programme that formulate recommendations aimed at improving how the government organizes itself, develops and delivers policy, and evaluates its functions.
The research interns will be integrated within the research team, assigned to one of the thematic areas of our programme (such as civil service, devolution, public finances, etc.).
The specific focus of each internship may vary based on current project needs, but interns can expect to undertake key tasks that include:
- Carrying out literature reviews
- Conducting background research and interviews with MPs, civil servants, and other stakeholders
- Performing data analysis, which involves creating and updating charts and honing data visualisation skills
- Collaborating across research and communications teams to organize and execute IfG’s public and private events
- Presenting research findings to colleagues
- Writing explainers and contributing to published reports
- Providing administrative support to the team as needed
