Are you passionate about driving change in South Africa’s energy landscape? The German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) invites motivated recent graduates to apply for the Graduate Internship: Intern – Gender Mainstreaming Support within the SAGEN – CET Programme.
This position is ideal for individuals eager to contribute to gender-responsive action and impactful communication in the energy sector over the course of a six (6) month contract.

Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Required:
To apply for this role, candidates must have a completed undergraduate degree in one of the following disciplines:
- Gender Studies
- Social Sciences
- Environmental Studies
- Energy Policy
- Development Studies
- Or a related field with strong relevance to social and energy transition themes.
Candidates should possess a blend of academic grounding, intellectual curiosity, and a purpose-driven mindset, ready to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges and contribute meaningfully to gender equality in energy.

- Possess excellent research, writing, and communication skills in English.

- Are proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable using them in a professional setting.
Key Responsibilities:
As an intern, you will support the advancement of gender mainstreaming within South Africa’s energy transition.
Under the guidance of the Gender Mainstreaming Technical Advisor, your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams on the implementation of gender-focused activities within the energy sector.
- Supporting stakeholder engagement to progress gender-responsive policies and regulatory frameworks.
- Contributing to the design and development of initiatives aimed at gender equality and empowerment in the energy sector.
- Assisting in the planning and execution of communication and knowledge management activities.
- Providing administrative and logistical support, including meeting preparation and documentation.
- Supporting overall project coordination and management tasks.
- Contributing to the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) system by gathering data and preparing reports.
- Keeping up-to-date with current trends and best practices in gender equality within the energy sector.
Important Information:
- Applicants must be South African citizens or hold a valid Permanent Residency permit.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have not previously participated in any internship programme.
- The internship position will be at GIZ offices located in Hatfield, Pretoria.
- This is a six-month internship, in accordance with GIZ’s internship policies.
