European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) Traineeships 2025-2026

The European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) is excited to announce the recruitment of nine trainees for the period from 16 September 2025 until 15 July 2026.

This is a remarkable opportunity to join our team, with seven positions available at our Paris Headquarters and two positions at the Brussels Liaison Office.

For the 2025-2026 traineeship programme, positions are available in the following areas:

  • Asia/Global China
  • Cyber and Digital Technologies
  • European Foreign, Security, and Defence Policy (Brussels Liaison Office)
  • Indo-Pacific (Brussels Liaison Office)
  • Middle East and North Africa
  • Russia and the Eastern Neighbourhood
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Transnational Security
  • EUISS Director’s Office

Applicants must select one domain to apply for.

Duties and Responsibilities

Trainees will be engaged in various tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting desk and library research.
  • Assisting in the organisation of events and performing associated administrative tasks.
  • Updating databases and mapping contacts.
  • Contributing to analyst portfolios as needed.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of an EU member state.
  • Education: A Master’s degree in political science, international relations, economics, or a related field is required by the start of the traineeship.

  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and proficiency in at least one other EU language is mandatory; additional knowledge of relevant regional languages is preferred.
  • Competencies: Experience in data gathering, event organisation, computer literacy, and demonstrated analytical skills are considered assets.

  • Behavioral Skills: Highly organised, self-motivated, creative, and capable of working within a multinational team.

Conditions of Traineeship

  • Duration: 10 months from 16 September 2025 to 15 July 2026.
  • Location: Positions available in Paris and Brussels.

  • Traineeship Grant:
    • Paris-based trainees: EUR 1,767.15 per month.
    • Brussels-based trainees: EUR 1,539.45 per month.
  • Trainees will receive 1.5 days of leave per month and be covered by our teleworking policy.
