One Health Platform: Travel Grants for 4-Month Research Stays in Germany

The One Health Platform is dedicated to addressing global health challenges that intertwine the well-being of animals, humans, and the environment.

Recognizing that these issues transcend national boundaries, we aim to foster international collaboration among scientists in the One Health field.

Through our travel grants, we encourage the exchange of scientific techniques, knowledge transfer, and the strengthening of international relationships. Join us in advancing this vital interdisciplinary dialogue!

Grant Overview:

This year, we are excited to announce the availability of up to two doctoral fellowships and one postdoctoral fellowship for a four-month research stay at a German research institution.

Funding Details:

  • PhD Students: €1,500 per month for a maximum of four months.
  • Postdoctoral Researchers: €2,350 per month for a maximum of four months.
  • Travel costs (round trip) will be reimbursed separately.

Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify for these travel grants, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be currently affiliated with a recognized academic institution outside of Germany.
  • Research focus should be aligned with the One Health framework.
  • Applicants must secure a German One Health partner institution that supports their research exchange and provides necessary laboratory or other workplace capacities.

Application Process:

To apply for the travel grants, please prepare and submit the following documents:

  1. Curriculum Vitae: An up-to-date CV (maximum 1 page) highlighting your research focus.
  2. Letter of Support: A support letter from your partner institution in Germany (maximum 1 page).
  3. Research Stay Description: A detailed description of the planned research stay, including a time frame (maximum 2 pages).
  4. Financial Planning: A concrete financial proposal for the use of the grant, including details for flights, train, accommodation, etc. (via links or screenshots). Note that all bookings will be managed through or in cooperation with HZI/HIOH, and travel expenses will adhere to the German Federal Travel Expense Act.

Selection Criteria:

The selection process will prioritize:

  • The interdisciplinary nature of the research exchange.
  • The relevance and contribution to One Health research.
  • The potential added value for the candidate’s career development.
  • The feasibility of the proposed schedule.

Application Deadline:

All application documents must be submitted by 5 May 2025. Applications should be sent via email to hioh-office@helmholtz-hioh.de. Selected fellows will be informed by 13 May 2025.

Important Notes:

Scholars are required to submit a short report upon completion of their stay.
