This pioneering initiative aims to position Africa as a leader in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) by harnessing the power of AI, robotics, and emerging technologies.
The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), a foundational partner since the inception of the competition, is dedicated to utilizing innovation as a driving force for sustainable development across the continent.
The highly anticipated 2025 Edition will be hosted in partnership with the Government of the Republic of South Africa through the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC).
Organization Background
The competition is a collaboration between AUDA-NEPAD and Ele-vate AI Africa, aimed at uniting policy, industry, and innovation to empower African youth.
As Africa accelerates toward a globally competitive, technology-driven economy, this initiative supports cutting-edge research and skills development while creating commercial pathways for AI-powered solutions.
The competition’s ultimate goal is to serve as a catalyst for industrialization, job creation, and digital transformation while aligning with South Africa’s economic priorities and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Important Information
1. Eligibility:
- Participants must be African youth aged between 15 and 35 years.
- Applications are welcome from both individuals and teams.
2. Registration:
- Applications open on February 14, 2025.
- Submission of accurate information is required, as any falsification will result in disqualification.
- Only projects that meet the specified categories and comply with the terms and conditions will be contacted.
3. Project Submission Deadline:
- All AI or robotics projects must be submitted by June 13, 2025.
- Submissions should align with the competition theme and guidelines.
4. Intellectual Property:
- Participants will retain ownership of their projects.
- The organizers may utilize project details for promotional purposes.
5. Code of Conduct:
- Participants are expected to exhibit respectful and ethical behavior.
- Cheating or plagiarism will lead to disqualification.
6. Judging Criteria:
- Projects will be assessed based on innovation, functionality, and impact.
- Decisions made by judges are final and not subject to appeal.
7. Prizes:
- Awards will be presented based on merit.
- All finalists will be announced on our social media platforms (currently available on X and LinkedIn) on September 19, 2025.
8. Final Event Attendance:
- Finalists are required to attend the virtual or physical award ceremony.
- Failure to respond or be available may result in the forfeiture of prizes.
- The Final Showcase and Ceremony will be held on November 22-23, 2025.
9. Data Privacy:
- Personal information collected during registration will be handled with security and confidentiality.
- Participants’ data will only be utilized for competition-related communication.
10. Organiser’s Rights:
- Organizers reserve the right to modify rules and guidelines as necessary.
- In unforeseen circumstances, the competition may be canceled or postponed.
