Role Purpose:
The Young Learner Assistant will provide essential support to all staff members within the Teaching Centre, focusing on young learners aged 3 to 17.
A commitment to ensuring a safe environment for these learners at British Council premises and partner schools is paramount.
Main Accountabilities:
The appointed candidate will support the British Council’s Child Protection Strategy through:
- Supervision of young learners before, during, and after classes, including break times, changeover times, and lunch periods.
- Creation and monitoring of e-registers and related documentation for holiday and academic year classes.
- Assisting the CST with class modifications to ensure all students are correctly assigned to classes and registers.
- Liaising with the Head of Young Learners and Country Operations Manager to uphold the British Council’s Roles and Responsibilities concerning young learners, parents, and staff.
- Informing Senior Teachers and Academic Teams about classroom issues, and caring for young learners who may fall ill while ensuring parents and management are informed.
- Assisting with the setup and closure of Partner Schools and handling administrative tasks when necessary and approved by Teaching Centre Management.
Qualifications:
Essentials:
- BAC or equivalent school-leaving certificate
Desirables:
- First aid training
- BAFA (brevet d’aptitude aux fonctions d’animateur)
Work Experience:
Essentials:
- Experience working with children in either a school or out-of-school environment
Salary & Benefits:
- Salary: 12.51 gross euros per hour
- Flexibility in working hours
- Leave: 35 leave days and an additional 6 privileged days converted into hours added to your annual hours contract.

Additional Information:
- Contract Type: Indefinite Contract
- Work Schedule: The position may involve travel between British Council Partner Schools in Ile de France.
- The role will require working unsocial hours (evenings and Saturdays) and during school holidays. A specific schedule will be provided per centre.
- Working Days: Wednesday & Saturday ONLY
- Right to Work/Passport Requirement: Applicants must be eligible to work in France. The British Council cannot assist non-EU nationals in obtaining a work permit for France.
