Background
UNIDIR is an autonomous institution within the United Nations that conducts independent research on disarmament and related international security issues.
It strives to support Member States, the UN, and policy communities in advancing ideas that contribute to a safer world, primarily based in the Palais des Nations, Geneva.
UNIDIR seeks a Graduate Professional to assist with research and reporting on the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in various outreach initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The Graduate Professional will:
- Conduct background research on the YPS agenda.
- Engage with a variety of stakeholders, including States, UN partners, and civil society organizations on youth-related issues.
- Support fundraising efforts and consolidate UNIDIR’s input on youth initiatives.
- Assist in planning and implementing events and outreach activities.
- Organize participatory or youth-led initiatives, ensuring a youth-centred approach.
- Contribute to administrative tasks as required.
Key Skills and Interests
Ideal candidates will possess:
- Strong research and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in synthesizing information into concise written briefs.
- Organizational and coordination abilities for handling multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; creativity in design and social media is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and InDesign.
- A keen interest in international peace and security, disarmament, and youth engagement.

Qualifications and Experience
Education
To qualify for the Graduate Professional Program, applicants must:
- Be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent).
- Preference will be given to candidates with post-graduate degrees in fields relevant to peace and security.
Work Experience
While applicants are not required to have professional work experience, relevant experience in the YPS agenda will be an asset. Candidates should also demonstrate computer literacy in standard software applications.
Languages
Fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of at least one other official UN language is advantageous.
