Internship Opportunity in the Presidency, Judiciary of the International Criminal Court (ICC)

The International Criminal Court (ICC), an esteemed institution dedicated to the pursuit of international justice, invites applications for an internship in its Presidency front office.

As part of the global community’s mission to eradicate impunity, the ICC is pivotal in investigating and prosecuting individuals accused of severe crimes, including genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

This internship presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the Court’s vital work while gaining invaluable insights into international law and relations.

Organisation Background:
The ICC is committed to promoting justice and accountability on a global scale.

The Presidency comprises the President and First and Second Vice-Presidents, elected by the Judges for renewable three-year terms.

It holds key responsibilities in judicial/legal functions, administration, and external relations—crucial to fostering relationships with States and enhancing public understanding of the Court’s mission.

The Opportunity:
Interns will support the External Relations Team, contributing to diplomatic preparations, communication processes, and broader public relations efforts.

This role provides the chance to engage with influential international legal matters and contribute meaningfully to the Court’s mandate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Working under the guidance of the External Relations Adviser, interns will:

  • Prepare background materials for the President’s travels and meetings, including research on legal and political developments.
  • Draft and revise correspondence, letters, speeches, and presentations.

  • Coordinate communication with various Court organs regarding external relations activities.
  • Take notes during meetings and prepare concise summaries.
  • Execute any other assigned duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Candidates must possess a degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognized university, showcasing strong knowledge in international criminal law, public international law, or international relations.

  • Experience: Practical experience is not mandatory; however, relevant working experience (not exceeding 3 years) is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Adaptability to multicultural and multilingual settings.
    • Strong teamwork, communication, and drafting capabilities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and research skills.

Knowledge of Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required, while a working knowledge of French is highly desirable. Proficiency in other official Court languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Remuneration:
Please note that internships at the ICC are unfunded. Interns must self-support throughout the internship duration and will not receive any financial compensation or reimbursement for associated expenses.

  • Motivation letter (maximum of 400 words)
  • Two reference letters (one academic)
  • Scanned copies of university degrees and/or diplomas
  • Scanned copies of official academic transcripts
  • One short essay or writing sample on a relevant subject (maximum of 1000 words, single-spaced, typewritten)
