GOAL NextGen Youth Programme 2025 (With Stipend)

GOAL is excited to announce the opening of applications for its NextGen Youth Programme, a transformative initiative aimed at bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds across the globe.

This programme is designed for motivated changemakers who aspire to deepen their understanding of global justice issues and enhance their knowledge of Global Citizenship.

Stipend Eligibility

To facilitate participation, stipends will be available for all successful candidates.

These stipends are intended to cover costs associated with internet/data and travel incurred during the programme, with a total stipend of €400 available for the duration of the programme.

Participants in the NextGen Programme will explore the pressing challenges facing our world today, with a specific focus on climate change and health systems.

The programme encourages collaboration among young leaders to devise innovative solutions for the future by creating effective awareness-raising materials that will contribute to GOAL’s public engagement efforts.

Programme Schedule: When will it take place?

The 2025 Programme will consist of 10 sessions, featuring 2 in-person gatherings for Irish-based participants and 8 online sessions scheduled as follows:

  • Sat, May 24: Irish-based participants in-person (11 AM – 4 PM)
  • Tue, May 27: International participants online (3 PM – 5 PM)
  • Thu, June 5: All participants online (3 PM – 5 PM)
  • Thu, June 12: All participants online (3 PM – 5 PM)
  • Sat, June 20 or 21: In-person retreat for Irish-based participants (Time and location TBC)
  • Thu, June 26: All participants online (3 PM – 5 PM)
  • Thu, July 3: All participants online (3 PM – 5 PM)
  • Thu, July 10: All participants online (3 PM – 5 PM)
  • Thu, July 17: All participants online (3 PM – 5 PM)

To accommodate a global cohort, all sessions will be held on Thursdays at 3 PM Irish Time, which corresponds to 8 AM in Honduras, 2 PM in Sierra Leone, 4 PM in Zimbabwe, and 5 PM in Ethiopia & Uganda.

What will I learn?

Throughout these 10 sessions, participants will have the opportunity to engage with peers worldwide while acquiring essential skills in:

  • Critical Thinking
  • Intercultural Communication
  • Project Management
  • Teamwork
  • Public Awareness Campaign Organization

By participating, you will be empowered to:

  • Grasp the interlinked and complex nature of global issues.
  • Examine systems perpetuating inequalities critically.
  • Reflect on your own role in addressing both local and global challenges.

  • Engage in meaningful dialogues with others, fostering a spirit of empathy, solidarity, and collaboration.
  • Cultivate confidence, courage, and resilience to advocate for change.
  • Gain insights into GOAL’s mission and connect with its dedicated staff.

What are we looking for in a candidate?

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a current resident of either Ireland, Ethiopia, Honduras, Iraq, Sierra Leone, Syria, Turkey, Uganda, or Zimbabwe.
  • Must be comfortably fluent in English.
  • Must be between 18 and 25 years old.

  • Must be available for 10 seminars between May and July, as scheduled above.
  • Must be open and willing to engage in teamwork between seminars.
  • Must demonstrate a basic or emerging understanding of local and global issues.

  • Must show enthusiasm and initiative to contribute to positive change; this may be demonstrated through volunteer work, participation in local events, or other engaging activities.
  • Interest in artistic methods of learning (such as drama, art, creative writing, journalism, music, etc.) is encouraged.

  • While reliable access to a device and internet is desired, it is not essential. Applicants without access are encouraged to inform GOAL in their application for support.

How do I apply?

To apply, please send an email to nextgenyouth@goal.ie with the subject line formatted as ‘Country, Full Name’ by April 11th. Submissions not following this format will not be reviewed.

In your email, please indicate whether you have access to a phone or laptop.

Additionally, attach your CV (a simple outline of your educational and volunteer/professional background is sufficient) along with a 1-page cover letter addressing the following points:

  1. Share your story! Why are you motivated to apply for this programme, and what makes you a strong fit?
  2. What skills can you contribute to the programme, and what do you hope to gain from your experience?

Alternatively, applicants may choose to record a short video (1-2 minutes) detailing the same information.

Closing Date

Applications close on April 11th. Successful applicants will receive notification of their selection by May 2nd.
