Carter Center Graduate Assistantship Program 2025 – 2026

The Carter Center is excited to announce that its offices in Atlanta have reopened, and programs will now be held fully in person.

The Carter Center Graduate Assistantship Program offers a limited number of funded opportunities for students currently enrolled in professional schools, including law and graduate schools.

Graduate assistants are required to commit nine to twelve months (starting August) and are expected to dedicate 10 to 20 hours per week.

In compensation for their commitment, graduate assistants will receive $18.50 per hour. Please be advised that these opportunities are specifically based in Atlanta, Georgia.

The application period for the 2025-26 graduate assistantship is now open.

Who We Are Looking For:

Strong candidates for the graduate assistantship are those who exhibit superior academic ability and have relevant academic or professional experience tied to the programs at the Carter Center.

Requirements for Eligibility:

  • At the start of the assistantship, applicants must have completed at least two semesters of academic coursework in a master’s or post-master’s level program.
  • Candidates must remain enrolled in a graduate or doctoral program throughout the duration of the assistantship.

  • Individuals who have already completed their degrees are not eligible.
  • All assistantships are based at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

  • Graduate assistants are required to make a 9 to 12-month commitment, with a 20-hour-per-week obligation during business hours (Monday to Friday).
  • Compensation for the role is set at $18.50/hour.

Areas of Focus for Graduate Assistantships:

Health Programs:
The Carter Center has been a leader in the eradication and elimination of diseases, addressing health issues such as maternal and child health in Sudan and Nigeria.

Peace Programs:
These programs focus on strengthening freedom and democracy worldwide to ensure political and civil rights essential for peaceful societies.

Conflict Resolution Program:
This program seeks a qualified graduate student for the 2024-2025 session to research best practices for addressing polarization within faith communities in the U.S.

    Specific Responsibilities for Conflict Resolution Graduate Assistants:

    • Produce two research papers on multifaith youth peacebuilding and evaluation methodologies.
    • Engage with senior project advisors to identify effective program models and develop practical outreach and training materials.
    • Present research findings through talks and seminars.

    Qualifications for Applicants:

    • Currently enrolled in graduate studies with completion of at least two semesters of coursework.
    • Ability to commit between 10 and 20 hours weekly for a period of nine to twelve months.
    • Strong research, writing, and analytical capabilities.

    • Self-starter attitude with the capacity to work independently.
    • Familiarity with interfaith dialogue and qualitative evaluation methodologies.
    • Interest in faith, peacebuilding, and community conflict transformation within the U.S. landscape.
