The Arms Control Negotiation Academy (ACONA) invites the next generation of international security experts to apply for an enriching 12-month fellowship program that focuses on developing skills crucial for effective arms control negotiation.

The fellowship offers participants a unique opportunity to earn a Certificate in Arms Control Negotiation while gaining access to a vibrant global alumni network.

Background of ACONA

Founded to address the pressing challenges in arms control and international security, ACONA operates in a landscape where the global order is in flux.

With emerging geopolitical tensions and evolving opportunities, ACONA is dedicated to training and empowering the future leaders who will shape international security policies.

📆 Program Highlights:

Intensive Training: Participate in three week-long boot camps that will refine your arms control negotiation skills.

International Experience: Travel to Iceland and attend the prestigious ACONA Conference in Reykjavík.

Collaborative Learning: Develop a comprehensive policy brief alongside fellow participants.

Expert Interactions: Engage with distinguished speakers, including past ACONA luminaries like former Icelandic Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, former NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller, and former EU High Representative Catherine Ashton.

⚠ Fellowship Term:

  • July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026

💡 Eligibility Criteria:

ACONA seeks highly qualified candidates of all nationalities with a demonstrated 3-5 years of advanced professional or research experience in any of the following areas:

  1. Arms control and nuclear issues
  2. Negotiation and mediation
  3. International peace, security, and global affairs—with a particular focus on U.S.-Russia-China-EU relations.

  • One Recommendation Letter (to be submitted directly by the recommender)
