
The Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO) is an international organization dedicated to enhancing the quality and efficiency of ocean observation efforts worldwide.
POGO was established to address global ocean issues through collaboration and knowledge sharing. It plays a crucial role in fostering relationships between oceanographic institutions and professionals.

POGO-SCOR Fellowship Programme
The POGO-SCOR Fellowship Programme is an exciting opportunity jointly funded by POGO and SCOR, focused on promoting training and capacity building in ocean observation.
This esteemed programme aims to enhance sustained ocean observations and their applications, catering specifically to early-career scientists, technicians, postgraduate students (preferably at PhD level), and post-doctoral fellows who are engaged in oceanographic work in developing countries and economies in transition.
Since its inception in 2001, the programme has awarded 200 fellowships, affirming its commitment to fostering global ocean observation efforts.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for the POGO-SCOR Fellowship Programme must adhere to the following criteria:
- Must be an early-career scientist, technician, postgraduate student (preferably PhD level), or post-doctoral fellow.
- Must be actively involved in oceanographic work at institutions located in developing countries or economies in transition, as defined by the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD.
- Preference will be given to applicants with limited international experience.

Fellowship Opportunities
The fellowship provides a unique chance for recipients to gain valuable training and hands-on experience in:
- Ocean observations.
- Data analysis and presentation techniques derived from oceanographic data.
Selected fellows will have the opportunity to visit leading oceanographic institutions abroad for 1 to 3 months to immerse themselves in practical activities, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
Important Notes for 2025 POGO-SCOR Fellowship Programme
- Training under the 2025 programme should commence between September 2025 and March 2026.
- Due to the current global economic landscape, a maximum budget of 5000 Euros per fellow has been established, emphasizing preference for shorter-duration fellowships (1-2 months) or those involving less travel to cities with lower Cost of Living Indices.
- Shortlisted candidates and prospective host supervisors will be invited for a brief interview with the POGO Secretariat.
