The Children and Youth Major Group to the UN Environment Programme (CYMG) is calling for applications for two new Regional Focal Points for Europe and Asia Pacific.

About CYMG

The Children and Youth Major Group is a globally recognized umbrella mechanism representing youth networks, organizations, and individuals dedicated to tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

As the formal conduit for youth engagement to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), CYMG champions the inclusion and meaningful participation of young people in global environmental governance.

Opportunities Available: Regional and Thematic Task Forces

We are excited to announce an open call for volunteers to join various Regional and Thematic Task Forces. As a Task Force member, you will support Regional and Thematic Focal Points in activities including:

  • Contributing to UNEP processes
  • Organizing events
  • Developing youth policy positions
  • Engaging local organizations
  • Promoting meaningful youth participation in environmental governance

Time Commitment: Members should expect to dedicate 2-3 hours per week, with an increase in hours as relevant programs and projects are implemented.

Current Open Positions

In this selection round, we are looking to fill nine Task Forces, with four positions available on each:

  • Regional Task Force – Latin America and the Caribbean: Organizing regional youth forums and engaging local organizations.
  • Thematic Task Force – Green Economy and Resources: Capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and contributions to UNEP processes.

  • Thematic Task Force – Climate Adaptation and Resilience: Focus on disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and UNEP processes.
  • Thematic Task Force – Sustainable Finance: Youth position development and input into UNEP processes.

  • Thematic Task Force – Environmental Health: Participate in discussions on the One Health approach and relevant UNEP processes.
  • Thematic Task Force – Policy Coordination: Support policy coherence across CYMG Working Groups.

  • Thematic Task Force – Science-Policy: Conduct research to support youth negotiations and maintain engagement with UNEP bodies.

Selection Duration

The mandate for selected members is one (1) year, beginning on or before May 1st, 2025. Please note, all positions are voluntary and do not offer financial compensation.
