2025-2026 Berkman Klein Center Fellowship Program at Harvard University (with Visa support)

The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society (BKC) at Harvard University invites talented scholars, academics, and practitioners across diverse fields to apply for its prestigious 2025-2026 Fellowship Program.
Established to advance interdisciplinary research and foster collaboration, the Center plays a pivotal role in exploring critical issues shaping the digital landscape.
By engaging with diverse voices and perspectives, the BKC seeks to promote understanding and conversation surrounding the challenges and opportunities presented by technology.
Through this call, the Center will accept candidates across three tracks:
- Academic Fellowships for Full-Time Faculty Members
- Post-Doc Fellowships for Scholars Who Have Recently Completed Their PhDs or Equivalent
- Non-Academic Fellowships for Accomplished Practitioners from Outside the Academy

2025-2026 Fellowship Workstreams
The Fellowship is focusing on various workstreams, which are key areas of research led by faculty members addressing urgent contemporary issues.
The following workstreams are available for candidates:
- AI Interpretability Ethics and Implications
- Agentic AI Protocols and Risk Mitigations
- Artificial General Intelligence Futurecasting and Policy Development
- Tech, Tools, and Practices for Improving University Discourse
- Safety Solutions for Social Media
Candidates will apply for consideration to be embedded with one of five workstreams at the Center.
Selected fellows will collaborate with a distinguished team of Harvard faculty, staff, students, and fellow researchers on projects, tools, events, and publications related to their chosen workstream.
As part of their application materials, prospective fellows should describe their interest in and ability to contribute to a specific workstream.
They may also propose a project to be executed in collaboration with BKC faculty, staff, students, and other fellows. Individual outputs may be included but should not be the centerpiece of the proposal.
Engaging with BKC Participants and Programming
Fellows are expected to engage actively with the BKC community, which includes faculty, staff, students, and members of Harvard University.
Participation in a weekly community meeting and regular involvement in the Center’s programming, such as workshops, research sessions, and working groups, is required.
Time and Location Commitments
The Fellows program will run for the full academic year, from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026.
Fellows are required to be in residence in Cambridge, MA from September 2025 through May 2026.
Fellows will work from the Berkman Klein Center’s offices on the Harvard Law School campus.
Fellows are expected to be free of regular commitments to fully dedicate themselves to their fellowship.
Who Should Apply?
The BKC seeks both established and emerging scholars and practitioners. Candidates should specify which track they are applying for in their application:
Academic Fellowship Track
- Open to full-time faculty members from all disciplines engaged in scholarship related to AI or social media.
- Applicants should have a clear project vision and a record of past contributions to public and scholarly discourse.
Post-Doctoral Fellowship Track
- Open to recent PhD graduates or terminal degree holders whose projects address AI or social media issues.
- Applicants should demonstrate a keen interest in collaborative work and potential contributions to the BKC community.
Non-Academic Fellowship Track
- Open to professionals with relevant expertise outside academia who have a strong concept for their project.
- Similar criteria regarding project vision and engagement apply.
International applicants will have their visa paperwork processed by the Harvard International Office (HIO). Details on this process can be found on the HIO website.
Stipend
- Fellowship funding: BKC provides stipends of up to $75,000 annually for fellows not receiving external funding.
- External funding: Fellows on paid sabbaticals may receive an additional $10,000 stipend to complement their existing support.
