Why Focus on AI for Gender Equality?
AI presents unprecedented opportunities to propel gender equality forward. However, to unlock this potential, feminist voices must lead the way—focusing on combating online gender-based violence, ensuring bias-free AI tools, and advocating for inclusive AI practices.
This program is designed for changemakers ready to integrate AI solutions into their advocacy efforts.
What You Will Learn:
The AI School will cover essential topics through a dynamic online curriculum, including:
- AI and Machine Learning Fundamentals: Gain insights into AI’s implications within the development sector.
- Ethical and Responsible AI: Understand strategies to mitigate bias and foster fairness in AI technologies.
- AI for Advocacy & Campaigns: Enhance your advocacy efforts through AI-driven campaigns, storytelling, and digital mobilization.
- AI-Powered Productivity: Discover AI tools to improve operational efficiency and workflow management.
- Custom GPT Design: Learn to create AI solutions specifically tailored for gender equality initiatives.
Participants will engage in interactive sessions, hands-on exercises, and practical applications, culminating in a final project to ensure real-world impact.
Who Can Apply?
We welcome applications from young professionals aged 18-35 with demonstrated experience in gender equality activism, innovation, or advocacy.
We particularly encourage individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, including those with disabilities and from rural areas. Eligible candidates include:
- Feminist leaders and human rights defenders
- Climate justice activists
- Award-winning inventors, scientists, and entrepreneurs
- Academics and media professionals promoting gender-inclusive AI discussions
- AI and tech professionals
- Gender equality specialists in governmental, international development, or UN agencies
To be eligible, applicants must be nationals of countries within the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, which includes Afghanistan, Australia, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kiribati, Lao PDR, Maldives, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nauru, Nepal, New Zealand, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Republic of Korea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Viet Nam.
Program Details:
- Duration: June – August 2025
- Time Commitment: At least 2 hours per week, supplemented by pre-readings, assignments, and final project work.
- Language: The program will be conducted in English.
